Test of Gross Motor Development-2 (TGMD-2)
Author: Dale A. Ulrich, PhD
Description
The TGMD-2 is a measure of common gross motor skills that can be used by kinesiologists, general and special educators, psychologists, and physical therapists. It helps identify children who are significantly behind peers in gross motor skill development and who may need special services in physical education. Each subtest assesses six skills:
- Locomotor: run, gallop, hop, leap, horizontal jump, slide
- Object Control: striking a stationary ball, stationary dribble, kick, catch, overhand throw, and underhand roll
Administration and Scoring
Detailed descriptions and illustrations of the gross motor skills and a simplified scoring system allow you to administer the TGMD-2 in 15 -20 minutes, using activities that are fun for children. You can use the results to develop instructional programs, monitor progress, and evaluate treatment. Results can be reported as standard scores, percentiles, or age equivalents, plus (if both subtests are completed) a Gross Motor Quotient.
