Gilliam Asperger Disorder Scale (GADS) Author: James E. Gilliam, PhD Aspergers Individual Administration Ages 3 through 22 Norm-Referenced Qualification Level B Description The GADS is used to identify individuals with behaviors that may indicate Asperger's Disorder and is based on the most current diagnostic criteria. Items on four subscales describe specific, measurable behaviors. Thirty-two clearly stated items divided into four subscales describe specific, observable, and measurable behaviors. (Behaviors are rated using objective, frequency-based ratings.) Eight additional items are included for parents to contribute data about their child's development during the first 3 years of life. Easily completed (at school or at home) by a parent and professional who knows the child, it can be used in assessment, to evaluate behavioral progress, and to identify IEP goals. The test was normed on 371 people with Asperger's Disorder from the U.S., Canada, and Australia. A table is provided for determining the likelihood that a subject has Asperger's Disorder. Administration and Scoring Administration takes 5-10 minutes; the response forms use frequency-based ratings. Results are reported as standard scores and percentiles. GADS scores discriminate persons with Asperger's Disorder from those with autism and other behavioral disorders.
