The DST helps assess and remediate specific reading disabilities, including dyslexia. By providing a diagnostic profile of decoding skills essential to reading comprehension, it shows the particular area in which an individual needs help: Three subtests assess Basal Vocabulary, Phonic Patterns, and Contextual Decoding.
Administration and Scoring
Administered in 15-30 minutes, the DST provides scores identifying reading achievement level, frustration level, phonic pattern knowledge, phonic decoding deficiencies, the effect of context on word recognition and decoding skills, oral fluency, and oral reading errors.
